With vinyl reissues from Bruce Springsteen, Grateful Dead, and Queens of the Stone Age, June is shaping up to be a great month for record collectors. Here’s our picks for June.

Grateful Dead – From the Mars Hotel – 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Neon Pink Vinyl

Eight months after the release of Wake Of The Flood, the GRATEFUL DEAD followed up that masterpiece with the second album on their Grateful Dead Records label, From The Mars Hotel. To this day, most of the songs on From The Mars Hotel are played frequently by the band members as they continue to bring the music to the people, and during the GRATEFUL DEAD’S touring career, more than half of the songs were important parts of their live repertoire. Peaking at #16 on the Billboard Top 200 chart in 1974, the album’s terrific batch of new songs and exceptional production had Dead Heads scooping up the album 50 years ago upon its release.

Bruce Springsteen – Born in the U.S.A. – 40th Anniversary Limited Edition Red Vinyl

This special edition album is on translucent red vinyl in a gatefold sleeve, with an exclusive booklet with archival material from the era, new liner notes penned by Erik Flannigan plus a four-colour lithograph. Released on June 4, 1984, ‘Born in the U.S.A.’ had an unprecedented seven US Top Ten singles on its track list, sold 17 million copies to date and captured the pop culture zeitgeist with once-in-a-generation impact. Springsteen and The E Street Band’s accompanying ‘Born in the U.S.A.’ tour included 156 sold-out performances across the globe, while tracks like ‘Dancing in the Dark’, ‘No Surrender’ and ‘Glory Days’ remain staples of their live show to this day.

Queens of the Stone Age – Queens of the Stone Age

The debut studio by the American rock band, originally released in September 1998. It was primarily written and recorded in April 1998 by founding member Josh Homme and his former Kyuss bandmate Alfredo Hernandez, with Hernandez playing drums and Homme singing and playing the rest of the instruments. Homme also produced the album alongside Joe Barresi. Bassist Nick Oliveri, also a former member of Kyuss, would join the band by the time of the album’s release.

Let Go is the debut album from Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne, originally released in June 2002. The album became an instant sensation, propelled by its catchy pop-punk sound and Lavigne’s distinctive voice and style. Empire of the Sun – Walking On a Dream – Mustard Yellow Vinyl

Walking on a Dream is the debut album from Australian electronic duo Empire of the Sun, released in October 2008. The album gained attention for its synth-pop sound and striking visuals. The title track reached number 10 on the Australian ARIA Singles Chart and later topped the US Billboard Alternative Songs chart in 2016. “We Are the People” also charted well globally, including number 1 in Germany. The album peaked at number 6 in Australia, earning 2x Platinum certification. Sade – Diamond Life

Diamond Life is the debut album by British band Sade, released in July 1984. The album became a major success with its smooth jazz and soul influences. The lead single, “Your Love Is King” reached number 6 on the UK Singles Chart. “Smooth Operator” was another hit, peaking at number 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The album topped the UK Albums Chart and reached number 5 on the US Billboard 200, earning 4x Platinum certification in the US and the UK. Diamond Life received critical acclaim and established Sade as a leading act in the jazz and soul genres.

Freda Payne – band of gold – Gold Vinyl

Band of Gold is the breakthrough album by American singer Freda Payne, released in 1970. The title track, “Band of Gold,” became a major hit, reaching number 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the UK Singles Chart. The album itself was a success, peaking at number 60 on the US Billboard 200 and number 3 on the UK Albums Chart. Band of Gold was praised for its blend of soul, R&B, and pop, establishing Freda Payne as a notable figure in the music industry and solidifying the title track as a classic hit.

The Pretenders – Learning to Crawl – 40th Anniversary Limited Edition Crystal Clear Vinyl

‘Learning to Crawl’ is Pretenders’ third album, released after a band hiatus which saw in this time the sad passing of guitarist James Honeyman-Scott and bassist Pete Farndon before recording started. It sees an assortment of guitar and bass players on the record before Robbie McIntosh and Malcolm Foster joined Chrissie Hynde and Martin Chambers making the band a four piece. Celebrating the album’s 40th anniversary, this reissue is true to the original 1984 release with the artwork and tracklisting remaining the same. This pressing of ‘Learning to Crawl’ features 2018 remastered audio by the album’s original producer, Chris Thomas, on vinyl for the first time.

Kenny Burrell and John Coltrane – Kenny Burrell and John Coltrane

Originally released in 1963 on Prestige, Kenny Burrell & John Coltrane features Burrell and Coltrane alongside Tommy Flanagan, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb playing across 5 tracks. This new edition is released as part of the Original Jazz Classics Series and is pressed on 180-gram vinyl at RTI with all-analogue mastering from the original tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio and presented in a Tip-On Jacket.
