Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio – The Criterion Collection

release date: 18th December 2023

A classic tale is reborn through the inspired imagination of cinematic dream-weaver Guillermo del Toro, directing alongside Mark Gustafson. Realized through boundary-pushing, breathtakingly intricate stop-motion animation, this dark rendering of the fable of the puppet boy and his maker—which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature—daringly transfers the story to Fascist Italy, where the irrepressible Pinocchio gradually learns what it means to be human through his experiences of war, death, and sacrifice. Featuring the voices of Ewan McGregor, Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton, and Christoph Waltz, this Pinocchio imbues the oft-told tale with a bold new resonance about living with courage and compassion.

The Circus – The Criterion Collection

release date: 4th December 2023

In the last film he made during the silent era, Charlie Chaplin revels in the art of the circus, paying tribute to the acrobats and pantomimists who inspired his virtuoso pratfalls. After being mistaken for a pickpocket, Chaplin’s Little Tramp flees into the ring of a traveling circus and soon becomes the star of the show, falling for the troupe’s bareback rider along the way. Despite it’s famously troubled production, this gag-packed comedy ranks among Chaplin’s finest, thanks to some of the most audacious set pieces of the director-performer’s career, including a close brush with a lion and a climactic tightrope walk with a barrelful of monkeys. Re-released in 1969 with a new score by Chaplin, The Circus is an uproarious high-wire act that showcases silent cinema’s most popular entertainer at the peak of his comic powers.

  • New 4K digital restoration of Charlie Chaplin’s 1969 rerelease version of the film, featuring an original score by Chaplin, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack on the Blu-ray
  • New audio commentary featuring Chaplin biographer Jeffrey Vance
  • Interview with Chaplin from 1969
  • New interview with Chaplin’s son Eugene Chaplin
  • In the Service of the Story, a new program on the film’s visual effects and production design by film scholar Craig Barron
  • Chaplin Today: “The Circus,” a 2003 documentary on the film featuring filmmaker Emir Kusturica

Django Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD

release date: 11th December 2023

Sergio Corbucci’s ground-breaking DJANGO is one of the greatest and most influential Westerns ever. Seminal, yet banned for decades, its aesthetics of visual cruelty transcended the genre and shaped today’s film-making language. Its major influence is declared by Quentin Tarantino – among many Hollywood directors – and seen in his all films. Django, played by the legendary Franco Nero, is the mysterious lone gunslinger who, dragging a coffinbehind him, arrives in a bleak, mud-drenched town where he’ll face two ruthless gangs of sadistic killers. Presented uncut, from new 4K-restored elements, this definitive version is pristinely faithful to the original filmmakers’ vision; as attested by Ruggero Deodato (of ‘Cannibal Holocaust’ fame) who shot several scenes of ‘DJANGO’ as the then-Assistant to Corbucci.

  • A riveting feature-length testimonial by Quentin Tarantino complements this edition: showing many clips, he explains how Sergio  Corbucci’s ‘Django’ permeates his own films from ‘Reservoir Dogs’ to his resounding tribute ‘Django Unchained’
  • Franco Nero on being Django
  • Perfect-Bound 64 pages booklet with foreword by Franco Nero
  • Slip Case Serial Numbered + reversible inlays with 3 key artworks
  • ArtCard with original posters
