the debut album of one of britain’s most acclaimed and influential bands, songs to remember takes us back to the beginnings of scritti politti. having emerged out of the diy camden bedsit scene of the late 70s, yet with a musical vision to match the likes of miles davis (who they later worked with), the green gartside-led group established themselves as one of the early 80s’ true innovators as songs to remember channelled both the fiery politics of the era with a burgeoning pop sensibility. described as ‘witty and ingenious’ by nme on its release in 1982, songs to remember has been fully remastered for this long overdue vinyl repressing, which has been personally overseen by gartside himself.

average white band – soul searching – 50th anniversary edition

2026 is the 50th anniversary of the iconic fourth album by Average White Band, released in June 1976. Reaching #9 and becoming their third consecutive US Top 10 album, Soul Searching includes the much-sampled classics A Love of Your Own and Queen of My Soul, with the latter reaching the Top 40 Singles Charts on both sides of the Atlantic. Two further singles in Everybody’s Darling and I’m The One were also released as singles in various parts of the world. Again, keeping to the formula, Soul Searching was produced by Atlantic’s legendary producer, Arif Mardin. Average White Band tore-up the rule book and conquered the US, UK & International charts with a series of soul and disco hit singles and albums between 1974 and 1980, widely and rightly earning the moniker of one of the best ever soul and funk bands. AWB’s repertoire has been a source of inspiration and influence for many R&B acts and they are one of the most sampled bands in history, remaining relevant today, continuing to reach new generations of younger audiences. Snoop Dogg, Fatboy Slim, Ice Cube, TLC, Rick Ross, will.i.am and Mark Ronson amongst countless others, have all borrowed sections of their grooves.
