hairspray

release: 20th july 2026
available on 4k uhd

After decades of pushing the boundaries of bad taste with his underground provocations, John Waters found surprising mainstream success with this infectiously irreverent rock-and-soul comedy. It’s 1962, and the only things bigger than the bouffant hairdos are the popular dance crazes sweeping the nation. When Baltimore teen Tracy Turnblad (Ricki Lake) shoots to stardom on a local TV dance party, her radical self-confidence and support for racial integration launch a movement that takes the city by storm. Co-starring the inimitable Divine in a fiercely funny double role, Hairspray finds Waters marrying his wildly subversive sensibility with a newfound bubblegum sweetness for what may be his most irresistible film.

In the seventies, one of America’s finest ever maestros behind the camera, William Friedkin, made The French Connection, The Exorcist and Sorcerer. In the eighties, he equalled them with the formidable To Live and Die in L.A., one of the most stylish thrillers the decade had to offer.
When his partner is murdered just days before retirement, Secret Service Agent Richard Chance (William Petersen, Manhunter) begins an obsessive hunt for his killer — counterfeiter and all-round psychopath Eric Masters, played by Willem Dafoe at his villainous prime. Beautifully shot by Robby Müller (Repo Man, Paris, Texas) and with a driving score by British new wave act Wang Chung, To Live and Die in L.A. looks and sounds exceptional in this breathtaking 4K restoration from the original camera negative.

on the beach

release: 27th july 2026
available on blu-ray

Although there’d been “doomsday dramas” before it, Stanley Kramer’s On the Beach was considered the first “important” entry in this genre when originally released in 1959. Based on the novel by Nevil Shute, the film is set in the future (1964) when virtually all life on earth has been exterminated by the radioactive residue of a nuclear holocaust. Only Australia has been spared, but it’s only a matter of time before everyone Down Under also succumbs to radiation poisoning.
With only a short time left on earth, the Australian population reacts in different ways: some go on a nonstop binge of revelry, while others eagerly consume the suicide pills being issued by the government. When the possibility arises that rains have washed the atmosphere clean in the Northern hemisphere, a submarine commander (Gregory Peck) and his men head to San Diego, where faint radio signals have been emanating. The movie’s all-star cast also includes Ava Gardner as Peck’s emotionally disturbed lover, Fred Astaire as a guilt-wracked nuclear scientist, and Anthony Perkins and Donna Anderson as young parents facing a terrible decision.

  • Video & Presentation: Presented in High Definition, Includes optional English descriptive subtitles
  • Archival & Extras: Audio commentary written by by Dr Philip Davey, author of When Hollywood Came To Melbourne, read by actor Douglas Hansell, Making On the Beach (1959, 9 mins): rare 8mm footage shot by amateur filmmaker Douglas Brockfield, Interview with Donna Anderson (2015, 20 mins): the actress discusses her time working with the cast and crew of On the Beach, Original theatrical trailer, Stills gallery

falling down

release: 27th july 2026
available on 4k uhd & blu-ray

In 1993, director Joel Schumacher (Flatliners) delivered one of the most provocative studio thrillers of the decade with Falling Down, a darkly comic, razor-sharp portrait of modern urban frustration starring Michael Douglas and Robert Duvall at their very best.
On a sweltering Los Angeles morning, a man known only as “D-Fens” (Douglas) abandons his car in a gridlocked traffic jam and sets off across the city on foot. He just wants to go home, but his path is marred by increasing everyday irritations that escalate into explosive confrontations, leaving a trail of violence in his wake. Trying to piece together these events is veteran cop Prendergast (Duvall), whose quiet final day before retirement becomes a chaotic hunt for a dangerous man on the edge. As the paths of these two very different men converge, the question of whether D-Fens is a victim of an oppressive society, or a man showing his true colors becomes unavoidable.
Now restored in stunning 4K, this controversial cult classic looks sharper and hits harder than ever before.
