With vinyl reissues from metallica, steely dan and dj rashad, December is shaping up to be a great month for record collectors. Here’s our picks for December.

Metallica – Ride the Lightning

 

release date: 1st December 2023

 

Metallica’s second studio album, “Ride the Lightning” marked a pivotal moment in heavy metal history upon its 1984 release. While firmly rooted in thrash metal, the album revealed the band’s evolution, showcasing musical maturity and lyrical depth. It achieved significant commercial success, selling over 6 million copies worldwide. The album will be pressed on 180g ‘Electric Blue’ limited edition coloured vinyl, featuring the 2016 remastered audio.

Steely Dan – Gaucho

 

release date: 1st December 2023

 

“Gaucho” is the seventh studio album by Steely Dan, released in 1980. It marked the end of their classic 1970s era, blending jazz, rock, and pop with meticulous production. Certified platinum by the riaa and peaking at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 and No. 27 in the UK. Its importance lies in its contribution to the evolution of jazz-rock fusion and its lasting influence on subsequent generations of musicians. 

Abba – the visitors – (Half-speed Master)

 

release date: 1st December 2023

 

ABBA release a suite of deluxe products for their 8th studio album “The Visitors”, with a new collection of vinyl products. 2LP format includes 180g heavyweight black vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve featuring obi-strip and certificate of authenticity. High-quality audio half-speed mastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road. The Visitors marked a departure from previous albums with its introspective themes. It topped charts globally, showcasing hits like “One of Us”. Its success coincided with the group’s hiatus.

ed sheeran – x – (Atlantic Records 75th Anniversary Edition Crystal Clear 2LP)

 

release date: 15th December 2023

 

Ed Sheeran recorded ‘X’ at various locations around the globe (all the while drawing on experiences and influences encountered on his over three years of unrelenting touring) with such luminary producers as Rick Rubin (Eminem, Jay-Z, Red Hot Chilli Peppers), Pharrell Williams (Daft Punk, Robin Thicke, N.E.R.D), Benny Blanco (Rhianna, Wiz Khalifa) and Jeff Bhasker (Alicia Keys, Jay-Z) adding new flavours to the classy work of key collaborators Johnny McDaid (Snow Patrol) and Jake Gosling (who produced ‘+’). Originally released in 2014, ‘X’ features singles ‘Don’t’, ‘Sing’, ‘Thinking Out Loud’, ‘Bloodstream’ and ‘Photograph’.

bring me the horizon – sempiternal – (10th Anniversary Picture Disc)

Fourth studio album by the British metalcore band Bring Me the Horizon. To mark the decade of an album with a heritage and sonic veracity still firmly intact, a special 10th anniversary vinyl pressing has been carefully fashioned to emphasise the music and underline the enigmatic artwork still steeped in symbology and mystique. A picture disc edition hosts the album’s opulent and iconic flower of life design, with a colour inversion of the album’s original palette further accentuating the ornate beauty of this album, and this special limited press.

sheryl crow – Tuesday Night Music Club

 

release date: 1st December 2023

 

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, “Tuesday Night Music Club” now has a proper 1LP vinyl version of the 7x certified Platinum album. The album was not released on vinyl in 1993. Bernie Grundman, who originally mastered the album, recently used the original 1/2-inch flat master tape to create a new master and then cut the lacquers.

fall out boy – Take this to your grave – 20th Anniversary Blue Jay Vinyl

 

release date: 15th December 2023

 

This year marks 20 years since the release of Fall Out Boy’s groundbreaking debut album ‘Take This to Your Grave’. Featuring the cult-classic singles ‘Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy’, ‘Saturday’, and ‘Dead on Arrival’ the album was a minor success in 2003, however it is revered as the vital blueprint for 2000’s pop-punk, with Alternative Press calling it a ‘subcultural touchstone’ and a ‘magical, transcendent, and deceptively smart pop-punk masterpiece that ushered in a vibrant scene resurgence with a potent combination of charisma, new media marketing and hardcore-punk urgency’.

big thief – Masterpiece – Limited Edition Eco Black Vinyl

Big Thief will release a new edition of their 2016 debut album Masterpiece, the album contains much-loved songs ‘Paul’, ‘Real Love’ and title track ‘Masterpiece’. It has been remastered and reissued on eco friendly Vinyl. Eco Mix vinyl production uses leftover wax that’s already in the factory to cut down on waste, resulting in a more environmentally friendly process. As a result, each record is different and the colour is completely random.

the d.o.c – No One Can Do It Better

 

release date: 1st December 2023

 

The D.O.C. released “No One Can Do It Better” in 1989, a seminal West Coast rap album. Helmed by Dr. Dre’s production, it showcased D.O.C.’s lyrical prowess. It reached no. 1 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart for two weeks, while peaking in the Top 20 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album was certified Gold by the RIAA three months after it was released, and Platinum on April 21, 1994. 

dj rashad– double cup – 10 Year Anniversary Gold Vinyl

 

release date: 8th December 2023

 

“Double Cup” by DJ Rashad, released in 2013, is a groundbreaking footwork and juke album. A pioneer in Chicago’s electronic music scene, Rashad’s innovative production and rhythmic complexity shine. The album, known for its vibrant energy and experimental beats, pays homage to the late DJ Rashad’s legacy, who tragically passed away in 2014.

  • So you sell skunk Anansie vinyls? I’d like to get my dad one for Christmas and as I am going to Cambridge tomorrow I thought it would be a good time to get his present for him then.

    • Hi there, in our Cambridge store we have 1 Skunk Anansie album in stock, its their 1995 debut Paranoid & Sunburnt. If you can’t see it in-store, please ask staff as it may be in the vinyl understorage. Thanks!
